Farewell to the NEC: Goodbye Chelsea!

Chelsea Pulliam

I started working for the Northcoast Environmental Center in the Spring of 2019. Now, 5 years later, it’s time for me to say farewell to this amazing organization. I was originally hired on as Office Assistant, and after a short time I carved out a new role as the Outreach Coordinator, helping with event planning, social media, and public engagement.

I had only been on staff with the NEC for one year before things went completely topsy-turvy due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and truthfully that was one of the most inspiring times with the organization. It was beautiful to watch all my co-workers rise to the occasion, throw out the old playbooks, and figure out how to best operate in the “new normal.” There was a deepening of relationships between staff, an intentionality to how we spent our energy, and a creativity that flourished in how we planned events and programs.

In 2020 I also took on the additional role of EcoNews Coordinator and Graphic Designer. Since that time I helped create 42 issues of EcoNews. I am so proud of the content we put out into the community.

I have absolutely adored and been so impressed by the wonderful humans I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside over the years: Tiffany, Casey, Bella, Brittany, Carrie, Caroline, Ivy, Carlrey, Elena, Mox, Sable, and Tali. I have learned so much from all of these people and been continuously inspired. Thank you to all of you!

I’m very excited for this next phase of my career. I now live in Bellingham, WA and have started my own business called Somatic Earth as an Eco-Somatic Coach. I utilize nature-based and body-centered techniques to help people feel more grounded, connected, and resilient so they can continue to engage with the important work of caring for the planet. I feel really passionate about teaching activists how to take care of themselves so they can do this work for the long haul. If you’d like to learn more about what I do you can visit www.somatic.earth.

I also want to express deep gratitude to the larger Humboldt County Environmental Community. You have raised me and shaped me into the person I am today. You will always hold such a special place in my heart. Keep learning, growing, fighting, and flourishing.

From all of us at the NEC: Thank you so much for nurturing the organization and EcoNews. Without you, EcoNews would not have been able to persist and grow. All our support and well wishes to you!
