Krista Miller, Zero Waste Humboldt President
An opportunity for Zero Waste Humboldt (ZWH) to secure its financial stability and sustain its leadership role in waste diversion education for Humboldt County is on the horizon. However, we need your help and support! Imagine an inspirational reusables hardware store for a project you are working on. Imagine the building you see, the ReUse Center, an industrial warehouse full of windows, doors, lumber, hardware, plumbing, tools, tile, ceramics, brick, stone, glass, metal, fixtures, and more. This is a place to experience the reuse philosophy, to shop for materials with stories, to be inspired by examples of reuse, and a place to donate reusable materials instead of throwing them away. A place where your dollar and your donation of reusables supports the non profit community work of ZWH.
Our vision project has already begun and we have secured a community partnership for the location of the Center. In addition, we have begun to accept some material donations by appointment and started planning fundraising events.
Already at the forefront, ZWH has secured a positive reputation in the community for waste reduction education, action, and advocacy. By creating the ReUse Center, consisting of a reusable material collection program paired with a reusable marketplace, the community will be able to experience significant waste diversion benefits and increased ability to meet greenhouse gas emission mandates. This Center will also stimulate a growing new industry of salvage, provide employment, and weather economic fluctuations that greatly affect non profit organizations. If you are interested in becoming an investor, member of this project, a PR sponsor, donor, or have grant writing experience, we need you to join our ReUse Center team. Please contact us at zerowastehumboldt@gmail.com and put ReUse Center in the subject line.
