And the award for the worst environmental president goes to… Trump. He is bringing back
dirty coal and liquified natural gas as our country’s chief sources of energy and trying to kill
renewable energy sources. Just what we need, more pollution. In fact, this administration is
proudly repealing regulations that are found in the National Environmental Policy Act,
including shortening the timeline to respond to their decisions. They have just eliminated
the 2009 Environmental Protection Agency’s “endangerment finding” regarding harmful
greenhouse gases, attempting to pretend that climate change doesn’t exist. The only priority
Trump believes in is corporate profits. These actions that affect all living things are
staggering. But the good news is that the Sierra Club is suing this administration. We have
been fighting environmental piracy longer than any other organization. The work is never
done. We can all do something to fight back. Resiliency is a word I love. The first Earth Day
was on April 22, 1970, as a response to environmental pollution and destruction.
Recently, the Sierra Club, Redwood Chapter met at Ridgewood Ranch (the racehorse
Seabiscuit’s last resting place) near Willits to discuss our 2026 goals which included our
three biggest priorities:
1. Outdoor activities (such as hikes)
2. Grassroots power and base building
3. Digital strategy and communication
If this sounds interesting to you please contact us. We want to hear from you. The Sierra
Club is looking for new members to defend our planet. We need activists who are willing to
work in our communities to fight environmental injustice and degradation. We plan to begin
regular hiking outings soon to be in nature and to get to know each other. We meet at the
Adorni Center in Eureka every third Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the meeting room.
