Data Collection Success Story

Have you ever wondered what the point of data collection is when doing cleanups? At the NEC we track marine and neighborhood debris to find local waste patterns so we can advocate for waste reduction solutions in our community.

As some of you may know, earlier this year the City of Arcata passed a new disposable foodware ordinance to help address the impacts of single-use plastic on the environment. We’re so thankful that the data we collected during Coastal Cleanup Day helped influence the decision to pass the ordinance.

Thank you to all of our volunteer citizen scientists and the amazing work that you do! Help us continue in the fight against plastic pollution by supporting the NEC’s Reduce Single-Use Pledge at yournec.org/pledge
