For this week’s Debris ID, we’ll take a look at a common item that can be puzzling to identify: Fishing Lures!
Lures can come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors that it’s hard to come up with a one-size-fits-all description. Most fishing lures are plastic, and can come in an array of bright colors. Some are sparkly and can change color depending on depth and water conditions. Many are shaped like small prey fish that a bigger fish can’t resist taking a bite of. Others are hook-shaped, or have a frilly tail mimicking a squid or insect. Still others are made to look like worms.
Hard plastic lures can be tossed in the recycling, and softer lures can be thrown in the trash. Or, collect them and use them for an art project!
