Join the Northcoast Environmental Center to make every day Earth Day!

NEC Press Release

Celebrate the 48th year of Earth Day with the Northcoast Environmental Center! We will be hosting a beach cleanup Sunday, April 22nd, 2018 from 10am to 12pm at Samoa Beach Power Poles! Please follow the signs and meet us at the parking at 10am. We encourage people to BYO work gloves or buckets if you have them to help us cut down on waste. We will provide trash pickers, buckets/ bags and gloves for those who need them in limited supply. Be safe; we recommend that you wear closed toed shoes while cleaning the beach to protect your feet. Coffee and bagels provided by Humboldt Bay Coffee Company and Frankie’s New York Bagels will be served to as you arrive!

Earth Day is a wonderful day each year that reminds us to take better care of the environment to help keep a healthy and clean earth. We at the NEC would like to take it a step further and declare every day is Earth Day, as we should always be mindful of our actions and how they can affect the environment. Everyone can make a difference this Earth Day by taking a pledge to consume less and reduce their impact on the environment by opting for more sustainable products in their lives. Little switches you can make are walking or riding your bike instead of using your car when possible, using reusables (cloth bags, metal coffee mugs or water bottles, ditching plastic straws for metal or glass ones), and starting a compost system are all great ways to reduce your footprint on the environment.

Those who are unable to make it April 22nd can still participate year-round in the NEC’s Adopt-A-Beach and Adopt-A-Block programs. For more information please visit www.yournec.org, call or stop by the office. You can also follow the NEC and the Coastal Commission on Facebook and Instagram.
