Legacy Giving

Legacy and Workplace Giving

With proper planning, you can provide support to the Northcoast Environmental Center’s mission beyond your lifetime. It’s a gift that will make a positive impact on the earth through funding environmental education, news and programs for generations to come. And there are several ways to give through your estate.

Life Insurance, IRAs, 401Ks

Include the Northcoast Environmental Center as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement ‘vehicle.’ Tax savings for these ‘vehicles’ vary, so consult your financial advisor to learn what suits your situation.

Bequests, or gifts through one’s will

These are the most common ways for a donor to leave a legacy gift. Nearly 90% of legacy gifts are bequests. It’s a straightforward process that allows the donor to maintain their own assets all of their life while offering extreme flexibility. It is best to consult with an attorney while considering a bequest, but leaving the Center in one’s will may be as simple as copying text and inserting it into your will & testament.

To include the Northcoast Environmental Center in your will, please ask your attorney to include the following language:

I give __________(specific amount or property, percentage, or residue) to the tax-exempt Northcoast Environmental Center located in Arcata, CA, for the purpose of supporting its environmental stewardship programs. (Tax ID 23-7122386)

Securities

A charitable donation of securities, such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds, is a tax-efficient way to make a contribution to a non-profit. Advantages of giving this way include:

1) A tax deduction for full fair market value of any securities with unrealized gains – up to 30% of the donor’s adjusted gross income, and

2) Securities that are donated rather than sold do not have capital gains taxes applied to them.

Endowment Fund

Contribute to the Northcoast Environmental Center’s Humboldt Area Foundation Endowment Fund. This fund was established to ensure the grassroots organization’s continuing ability to pursue its mission to promote understanding of the relations between people and the biosphere and to conserve, protect, and celebrate terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems of Northern California and southern Oregon. More information, or to make a one time or regular donation visit www.hafoundation.org.

If you’ve decided to leave a gift to the Northcoast Environmental Center please let us know so that we can express our gratitude.

Workplace Giving

If your business purchases items on Amazon, try using Amazon Smile and select the Northcoast Environmental Center as your charity.

If your business engages in other online shopping, try Giving Assistant, which has over 3,000 online stores participating.

To donate through your workplace:

Northcoast Environmental Center is registered for workplace giving through Benevity, which also offer matching gift programs (see below).

Double your impact with Employer Matching Gifts

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies will even match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses. If your company has a workplace giving program, it may automatically include a matching gift from your employer, which multiplies your contribution.

To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please ask your employer. If your employer requires a matching gift form or other application, you can send the completed and signed form to us, and we can do the follow-up paperwork. The Northcoast Environmental Center’s tax identification number is 23-7122386
