“The sorrow, grief, and rage you feel is a measure of your humanity and your evolutionary maturity. As your heart breaks open there will be room for the world to heal.” -Joanna Macy
Much of our motivation to spur change is rooted in our passion, our anger, and our sadness; balance has been disturbed, whether in our personal lives or as larger movements, and our emotions can be helpful indicators of what boundaries have been crossed.
The journey, however, is toward learning how to notice and acknowledge our emotions without allowing them to run the show. With EcoGrief, for example, sometimes we hold so much sorrow in the present and fear for the future that it paralyzes us from taking action or acknowledging the still present beauties of the world. Our emotions, as Macy indicates, are powerful tools that can help us to have deeper discernment of the state of our own hearts and of our environment.
How do you create space for your emotions and alchemize them into the catalyst for change? Do you have room inside you for the world to heal?
