“Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to contact with the Earth’s surface electrons by walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems, some of them patented, that transfer the energy from the ground into the body” (Chevalier et al., 2012).
Though many of use don’t need scientific studies to tell us how healing contact directly with the Earth is, Western science can help us to understand just how the healing happens. “Earthing”, as described in the above quote, has been proved to reduce inflammation, pain, and stress, and has the ability to improve blood flow and sleep quality.
While there are “earthing” mats that you can purchase for use in your home, we encourage you to get outside when you have a moment of sunshine and place your feet on some cool, bare soil. There’s nothing like the real thing.
Take this time to check in with your body, mind, heart, and spirit. How are you feeling in all of these layers of yourself?
