Today we’re talking about the “three day effect”, a concept explored deeply in Florence Williams’ book The 3-Day Effect: How Nature Calms Your Brain. “The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative.”

Williams’ book follows war veterans and sexual traffic survivors, among others, on guided three day excursions intended to facilitate trauma healing. Three days in nature without technology has proven to show dramatic results via brainwave scanners and personal interviews.

When we talk about social and environmental justice, we can think about how the healing of both people and planet are intertwined. Those left forgotten by war and trauma have the chance to commune with nature – another entity abused by our consumerist systems – toward greater awareness, healing, and focus.
