Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!
Celebrate by advocating for land back and/or donating money to land trusts and others doing the sacred work of returning and protecting land.
If you’re local to the Arcata area and haven’t yet committed to the Wiyot Honor Tax, you can do so at honortax.org
If you don’t have land or money to give, attend an online talk about Indigenous Peoples Day or the dominant narrative of “discovery” (there are thousands happening in local and global communities today), do some of your own research about treaties with your local tribes, tell someone in your family or one of your friends something about the tribe whose land you’re living on, write a letter to your reps if you live in a state where Indigenous Peoples Day is not yet formally recognized, check out the projects local tribes are working on regarding natural resources, sustainability, and land restoration, go out and be with the land in an active, conscious, and humble way, etc.
There are so many ways to be involved in this celebration!
The NEC honors the guidance from and collaboration with our local tribes in all the work we do.
And don’t forget – our next Thrive: Eco Grief and Anxiety Circle is – October 25th from 6-7pm PST. Find the link in our bio. Questions? Contact Brittany at email@example.com
