Returnable Beverage Bottle System in California

On October 5th 2021, Gavin Newson signed a bill, AB 962, which requires a returnable bottle system be established in California by January 1st, 2024.

Currently, over 25 billion single-use beverage bottles flow through California’s Beverage Container Recycling Program every year. This bill allows these bottles to be washed and refilled by beverage producers rather than being crushed for recycling.
