Artivism Workshop | June 29 [POSTPONED]

UPDATED 6/27: This event has been postponed due to a staff member’s potential COVID exposure. Please check back in a few weeks for rescheduled dates.

ART IS ACTIVISM and has the power to influence culture and policy. The NEC is so excited to be partnering with the Ink People to offer a series of free or low-cost art activism workshops monthly in 2022.

This workshop strives to bring awareness to waste issues and give litter a new life! By making upcycled art we can prevent trash from going into our oceans and landfills. We embrace the idea that art is activism and has the power to influence policy and change the way we deal with marine debris as a community.
This event encourages us to recognize the possibility in what we may have once considered “waste.” Trash can become something beautiful, useful, innovative, and even powerful. We hope to transform our community mindset to see value where we couldn’t see it before, and know our actions create ripples. Viewing or creating a moving piece of artwork made from trash has the potential to create change within your home, community, or even the world!

When: June 29 [POSTPONED]
Where: 415 I Street, Arcata, CA 95521 (NEC Office)
Cost: Free (Bring your trash art supplies!)
Workshop Topic: Upcycled trash art
Hosted by: Caroline Griffith, NEC Executive Director and Rebel Craft Rumble Queen
